A slower paced and relaxed tour, spend a day admiring panoramic views as we travel in the comfort of a 4 wheel drive with a small tour group to visit the beautifully isolated Craig’s Hut – once only seen by cattlemen and horsemen.

Take in the impressive mountain range and abundance of wildlife, as you absorb the history that lies behind this extraordinary hut that featured in the film ‘Man from Snowy River’. We’ll treat ourselves to a picnic lunch and relax under the snow gums.

Next we’ll visit Mt Stirling to see the impressive 360 degree views across to nearby Mount Buller as well as the other mountains and cliff lines that make up the High Country. The perfect background for a great photo!

And if that wasn’t relaxing enough or you need some more scenery- finish the tour with an afternoon in the countryside. What a way to complete a fabulous country day before you are taken back to the bustling city of Melbourne.

What you need to bring

Hat, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes (no open sandals please), insect repellent, clothing for warm and cool weather (it can have cool winds up top on the mountain), rain jacket, camera and your sense of adventure.

Craig's Hut

Enjoy a delicious picnic lunch at Craig’s Hut, enjoying the panoramic views of the soaring mountain peaks – perfect photo opportunity! Craig’s Hut was built as a film set and attracts more people than any other hut in the High Country. Built in 1981 as a film set for the “The Man from Snowy River”. It is named after the male lead Jim Craig.

Mt. Stirling

Take in the fantastic 360 degree views across to nearby Mount Buller as well as the high country range that runs from Mount Cobbler through Mount Speculation and to the Crosscut Saw and Mount Howitt. From there the range swings westwards, finishing at The Bluff; an impressive tilted plateau that has awe inspiring cliff lines on its northern side.

Return to Melbourne

Relax as we cruise back to the drop off location arriving approx. 7.00pm.

   Wonderful host, beautiful scenery and great fun! I did the Craigs Hut and Mt Stirling day tour.  The vehicle was comfy, Bruce was friendly and accommodating.  Lovely lunch too! I was in Melbourne for work and this was the best day trip out of the city to see something you don’t normally see.  100% recommend as a way to see the stunning high country from the city.

   My super surprise birthday present for my amazing hubby worked!!! He was surprised and loved it!!! A 4WD adventure tour to Craig’s hut, Bindaree falls and the Bluff = AMAZING! And best of all - he had to do nothing ALL day but sit back and enjoy! He couldn’t wipe the huge smile off his face! Bruce was great - Very informative and definitely knows his stuff!    6 days and nearly 700km of tracks & trails through the high country. Extremely challenging driving conditions at times. The expedition was expertly led by Bruce who used a blend of coaching and directing techniques to get us through safely. Professional at all times and a top bloke to boot!

   We went up to see Craig's hut in early June however there was a high level of unexpected snow fall the night before preventing us from getting through. We were disappointed we couldn't get to see it but the weather cannot be controlled. Aside from that, Bruce was very friendly & professional & a confident & competent driver & tour guide. He made plenty of stops for photo opportunities. We would highly recommend going up the mountain with him. Prices were reasonable, & a lovely lunch was provided. We look forward to trying again next year.
