Training

Those participating in Australis 4WD Driver Training courses range from complete novices with absolutely no experience, and probably nervous to start with, to those with experience and looking to increase their skills.

Your vehicle does not need any expensive extras and accessories in order to do our courses, in fact absolutely factory standard is quite OK in most cases.

Australis 4WD Driver Training teaches you how to safely tackle terrain that you would never previously have thought possible to the stage where you are driving that terrain with absolute confidence and without a second thought.

Frequently asked questions:

Do I get trained by a professional accredited trainer?

Yes, your trainer and also owner of the business, Bruce Ouwerkerk, is a leading 4WD trainer in Australia having provided 4WD training in three states; taught people via 4WD associations including State Associations, and taught people employed by private companies who need to 4WD for their work. Bruce is a fully trained, accredited, and experienced 4WD trainer for over 20 years who has decades of experience 4WD driving in a range of high country to remote desert experiences. He has taken groups on 4WD tag along tours and led groups of vehicles into remote country throughout Australia, and for extended distances.

Do I get practical and theoretical training?Snowgum on Mt Stirling

You need some theory to inform decisions you make driving – but you will not be sitting in a classroom for hours just talking about 4WD driving. We will get out and practice.

Your trainer will lead you out into the bush, and get on with actual driving and learning hands-on about the real 4WD environment. You will learn so much more than just by sitting in a classroom looking at a presenter, watching videos or reading out of a book.

avenel bridgeDoes it matter if I attend by myself?

No, I train people in small groups (One to four vehicles) to ensure attention is given to everyone’s range of capability and experience.  You will meet people on the day but you will be driving your car.

Can I learn what I need to know in one day?

The trainer’s intention is to get you to a position where you feel comfortable driving in range of terrains and be able to make good, informed decisions.

Will the training stretch my experience?

Yes, we will probably take you out of your comfort zone along the way, otherwise our Training wouldn’t be doing our job properly if we didn’t.

We use real, and sometimes rough, bush tracks; the sort of tracks that you will experience when you go out there on your own or with family and friends. You need to build your experience, guided by an expert, to ensure you drive safely and with confidence.

Your 4WD training course will teach you how to drive the various terrain types on your own and how to make your own good decisions.
